IMRaD First Draft

Smoking Ban on College Campuses
Andrew Bratcher
Abstract
Recently, in the public, smoking has been banned in many places due to the negative health effects and irritability of it to the non-smoking population.  College campuses such as, UofL, have not banned smoking, but this study was to see if college students would rather have it banned or stay apparent.
Introduction
Recent studies have shown that smoking can damage the brain and memory due to high blood pressure.  Also the effects of secondhand smoke is a nuisance to others around who do not smoke.  Although at UofL, smoking is not encouraged, there is no enforced rule to stop it.
This study asks students around campus whether or not smoking should be banned on campus and why.  Whether it be due to academic reasons or just to stop an unhealthy habit among students.
Method
A survey was created and sent out to 20 various college students.  With luck all of them replied to the three question survey.  Each question had the answers of Yes, No, or No Opinion as well as a comments section.
Results
Out of the 20 students.  5 students answered question one, which was the essential question, (Do you think that smoking should be banned from college campuses?) with no, 3 with yes, and the majority of 12 with no opinion.  The next two questions were almost exact with the same number of results.
With no opinion being at the highest point, this has lead me to believe that smoking on campus is not as big of a deal as it may be pursued to be.
Discussion
These results again has led to proof that smoking on campus is not a huge problem in the college society.  I believe that the option of answering no opinion on the survey was in fact vital because many people do not seem to care much about an issue like this.  It is based on the freedom of others and shows people respect other people’s freedom within certain boundaries, which the university provides.

IMRaD Plan

Do you think organ selling should be legalized and regulated?

Do you think that campus should completely eliminate smoking on campus?

I plan on asking around to about 20 people one of these questions and with this poll receiving the primary information.  Along with just simply asking these questions I am going to ask people why they believe this to get a more in depth answer form them.  The second question seems more likely being that I will be taking my poll on campus and it is more relatable.

I will then take my information and turn it into a report. I will then research more about the topics (which ever one I choose) and see how other research has been affected by these questions.
